On Friday we targeted the area of northwest Kansas where marginal ingredients for severe storms mingled near a stalled cool front. After the long drive from Pierre, we stopped in Oakley, KS for gas-up before heading southwest to developing storms northwest of Scott City. These high-based storms were unimpressive initially, but went on to put on a spectacular late evening show. We kept ahead of the slow moving storms until sunset just east of Oakley. The group thoroughly enjoyed the storms, which provided many photo opportunities. Gif animations of the various storms are available here.
